The Random Series – Miguel Ángel Tornero

The Random Series – Berliner Tract, Romanzo & Madrileño Trip is a photographic project by Miguel Ángel Tornero (Baeza, 1978), developed over four years in Berlin, Rome, and Madrid, and now presented in this book in an expanded form that escapes conventional classifications.

During his stay in each city, Tornero photographed his daily life with intensity and instinct, compiling a series of images that would become the raw material for the final digital collages featured in the publication. In his approach to photography—and to the city—curiosity and instinct prevail.

In the process of creating these unsettling collages, the artist exploits a software error: a program designed to stitch together images with no apparent connection. The final result is, to a large extent, left to chance.

The text by Carlos Fernández-Pello is an elaborate textual collage that, in parallel with the creation of the images, has been mercilessly manipulated, translated, and retranslated into different languages using Google Translate.

At the same time, the book’s pages were laid out randomly, and before binding, the printed sheets were shuffled. This results in a deconstructed book in which each copy is practically unique.
